TASK 1
第一套 社会现象
Some people like to collect old things such as newspapers, toys, or books while others throw things away after they have used them. Which do you prefer and why?【重复2021年8月21日线下原题】
Sample Answer
Well, I'm the kind of person who would like to throw away old things.
Cause if I don't, my room will be cluttered and cramped since it’s not that spacious. And the old things will just take up too much space. no one will ever use the old things anymore, so what’s the point of holding on to them? Only after I throw them away can I make room for the new things, like brand new books and clothes and stuff like that.
In addition, collecting too many things also means I have to spend a lot of time organizing them. But I just don’t have the time. you know, I am already under too much academic pressure. Like I have to do homework and take classes and things like that. I do not want to burden myself with keeping the house in order.
第二套 学校政策
Because most students have their own laptops, your university is considering closing the campus computer lab, where students use university-owned computers. Do you think this is a good idea and why? 【重复2024.2.27& 2019.9.21/2023.5.25/2023.9.23线下原题】
Sample Answer
I don’t think it’s a good idea.
Because not all the students can afford to have their own laptop computers. And they still need to go to a computer lab. You know, some students are not financially independent. They are on a tight budget. Buying a computer would definitely put a strain on their budget. So, obviously, the computer lab is necessary.
In addition, the computer lab can serve as a back-up option. There are times when a student’s laptop may break down or freeze. In that case, they still need to go to a computer lab to write a paper that is due in a few days or search for some important information online.
第三套 人际交往
Do you think communicating through social media is better than communicating in person?
Sample Answer
I don’t think social media communication is better than in-person interaction. While social media offers convenience—connecting people across distances and saving time for busy schedules—it lacks key elements of face-to-face communication.
To start with, in person, we can read body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice, which help convey emotions accurately and avoid misunderstandings. These nonverbal cues build deeper trust and empathy and make conversations more meaningful.
For instance, a friend might text "I'm fine," but in person, you can instantly tell from their posture and voice if they're actually upset. This immediacy allows for genuine empathy and support. Social media is great for staying in touch, but for true understanding and strong relationships, the authenticity of in-person interaction is irreplaceable.
