Narrator: Listen to a conversation between a student and his professor.

Professor: This is not what I had in mind when I assigned a film review.

Student: It isn't?

学生：不是吗？

Professor: No. What you wrote is a synopsis, a detailed summary of the movie, but it's not a review.

教授：是的，不是。你写的是一个大纲，是关于这部电影的详细总结，不是评论。

Student: It's not? I guess I'm a little confused cuz isn't that what a film review does?

学生：不是吗？我想我有点迷惑了因为……难道影评不就是那样吗？

You know, describe the film?

你知道的，描述下电影吗？

Professor: Sure. In part.

教授：当然。部分是这样的。

But a good review has to do more.

但是一个好的评论必须包含更多的内容。

But this is probably not your fault.

但这可能不是你的错。

I'm starting to think that I should have explained the assignment better because... well... I got a lot of summaries and very few reviews.

我认为我应该更好地解释这个任务，因为……嗯……我收到的很多都是对电影的总结，很少有评论。

Student: So it wasn't only me.

学生：所以不是我一个人这样做了？

Professor: Hardly. I just assumed that everyone would know what to do.

Student: So... um... what else is a review supposed to do?

学生：所以……嗯……那么写影评还应该怎么做呢？

Professor: Well, it should also analyze the film, discuss its strengths and weaknesses, maybe compare it to other movies,

教授：嗯，写影评还应该分析电影，讨论它的优点和缺点，也许要与其它的电影进行比较，

even mention why the reviewer did or didn't like it.

甚至是要提到为什么观看者为什么喜欢或是不喜欢这部电影。

Student: You mean it should have been more personal?

学生：你的意思是它应该更加的个性化？

Professor: For starters, or maybe subjective is a better word than personal.

教授：对于初写影评的人来说，用“subjective主观的”这个词来描述比“personal个性化的”这个词来描述更好。

Yes. It should have been more subjective.

是的，影评应该要更加主观化。

Student: Maybe I could rewrite it?

学生：那么我应该重新写？

Professore: Well, I don't know about rewriting it.

教授：嗯，我还没想好是否要你重写。

Too many people seemed to have missed the point.

太多的人似乎没有注意到这个细节。

I think I may have to forgo evaluating this one.

我想我可能不得不放弃对这个影评的评判。

Instead maybe we'll just devote a class to discussing what it takes to write a good film review.

Or maybe... hmm... you know, I have a colleague who writes film reviews for the local paper.

Maybe I could ask her to come to class and describe what she does and then have everyone rewrite their reviews.

Student: So, she would talk about what a film review should be like, so we'd know what to do.

Professor: Well, more than that.

A professional film reviewer gets to see movies sometimes before they are even released.

一位专业的电影评论员在电影发布前有时会先去看那部电影。

They get advance copies - usually a video or DVD - to watch at home or they go to a movie as soon as it opens in the theaters.

他们可以获得样片----通常是一个视频或是DVD，提前在家看或者是电影在剧院一开播就立即去电影院看。

Student: Um... seeing it on the big screen in a theater, doesn't that affect the experience?

学生：嗯……在剧院的大屏幕上看，这个不会影响看的效果吗？

Professor: Of course! Having other people there can... can affect the review, too.

教授：当然! 有其他人有可能……也会影响影评。

So, for the next assignment, I might ask everyone to review one of the films the film club shows every weekend at the theater on campus.

因此，对于下一个任务，我可能会要求每个人对每周末电影俱乐部在校园剧院里放的电影做影评。

There is no admission charge.

看这些电影是没有入场费的。

They are free to students and the movies are shown on Friday and Saturday nights, plus Sunday afternoon.

So, everyone should be able to see one.

Student: But for this time, will we have to rewrite our reviews?

Professor: Well, let's take it one thing at a time.
