I'd like to talk about the time I accidentally broke my smartphone about eight months ago. It was my iPhone that I'd only had for about six months, so it was still relatively new and I was being extra careful with it.
This happened on a Tuesday evening when I was at a coffee shop near my university, studying for an important exam the next day. I had been there for about three hours and was getting ready to leave. As I was packing up my books and notes, I placed my phone on top of my textbooks, thinking it would be safe there while I organized everything else.
What happened was pretty stupid, honestly. When I picked up my heavy backpack, I didn't realize my phone was still sitting on top of the books underneath it. As I lifted the bag, my phone slid off and fell directly onto the concrete floor of the café. It landed screen-first with this awful cracking sound that every phone owner dreads.
When I picked it up, I saw spider web cracks all across the screen, and the corner was completely shattered. I felt my heart sink because I knew repair costs would be expensive, and I was already tight on money as a student.
After it happened, I first tried to see if it still worked - fortunately, the touch screen was still responsive despite the cracks. I immediately called my dad to tell him what happened, expecting him to be upset, but he was actually quite understanding. The next day, I took it to a phone repair shop and ended up paying about 800 yuan to get the screen replaced. I also bought a really sturdy phone case right away to prevent this from happening again.

Phone screens, definitely! I swear I drop my phone at least once a week. Kitchen stuff breaks a lot too - plates, glasses, especially when you're rushing to clean up after dinner. Remote controls seem to have a death wish in my house - they either get dropped or mysteriously stop working. Furniture legs get wobbly from moving things around, and don't get me started on how many charging cables I've accidentally stepped on or bent. Oh, and anything electronic near kids is basically doomed - my nephew somehow managed to break my laptop keyboard just by "helping" me type.

Usually practical, hands-on people who grew up in families where you didn't just throw things away. My dad can fix almost anything with duct tape and some random tools - he gets this satisfied look when he solves a problem. People who are curious about how things work tend to be good at repairs too. Sometimes it's just stubborn people who refuse to pay repair fees! My friend is super cheap, so she learned to fix her own bike and laptop just to save money. Engineers and people with technical backgrounds obviously have an advantage, but honestly, YouTube has turned a lot of regular folks into DIY experts.

It depends on what you're comparing. Mass-produced clothes from cheap brands fall apart after a few washes, but high-end factory clothing can be really well-made with consistent quality. Handmade clothes are usually more durable because someone's putting individual attention into each piece, but the quality really depends on the person's skill level. My grandmother's hand-knitted sweaters have lasted decades, while some boutique "handmade" stuff I've bought was actually pretty sloppy. Factory clothes are definitely more consistent though - you know exactly what you're getting, for better or worse.

In terms of money, usually yes, because of all the time and skill involved. But I think the real value is more personal - like when someone makes you something, it feels special because they put thought and effort into it specifically for you. My mom made me a scarf once and I treasure it way more than any expensive store-bought one. Handmade clothes often fit better too because they can be customized. Though honestly, I can't afford to buy only handmade clothes - they're just too expensive for everyday wear. But for special occasions or unique pieces, the extra cost feels worth it for something truly one-of-a-kind.
