I'd like to talk about a website called "Xianyu," which is an incredibly popular online marketplace in China. The name actually translates to "idle fish" in English, which I find quite clever as it represents items that are sitting idle and could be useful to someone else.
Xianyu offers an enormous range of second-hand items. You can find practically anything on there - from everyday electronics like phones and laptops to clothing, furniture, collectibles, books, and even luxury goods. What makes it particularly interesting is that you can also find some unusual items that you wouldn't expect, like partially used cosmetics, homemade food, or even virtual game accounts.
I probably browse through Xianyu about three times a week. It's become something of a habit for me to check it during my commute or while having my morning coffee. I've bought several things from there, including my current desk lamp, some novels, and a barely-used camera tripod that was selling for less than half its original price.
When using Xianyu, I often feel a mix of emotions. There's definitely that excitement of hunting for bargains - that little rush you get when you find something you've been looking for at a great price. But generally, I think it's a smart approach that teaches children about sustainable consumption from an early age.

Absolutely! Fast fashion is a major environmental problem – the amount of water, chemicals, and energy used to produce new clothes is staggering. By shopping second-hand, we're essentially recycling and extending the lifespan of existing items. It reduces the demand for new production and keeps perfectly good clothes out of landfills. I recently read that the fashion industry produces about 10% of global carbon emissions, so every pre-loved purchase makes a difference. It's one of those win-win situations – good for your wallet and good for the planet!

People handle unwanted clothes in different ways. Many donate them to charity shops or shelters, which I think is wonderful.
