I'd like to talk about my cousin, Mei Ling, who recently became a nurse at a big hospital in Guangzhou.
Mei Ling is 26 years old and graduated from nursing school two years ago. As a nurse, she works in the emergency department of the hospital. Her job involves a lot of different tasks. She helps doctors examine patients, gives medicines, changes bandages, and keeps an eye on patients' conditions. She also talks to patients and their families to explain treatments and give them comfort.
Mei Ling chose this career for a few reasons. First, she's always been a caring person who likes to help others. When we were kids, she was always the one looking after anyone who got hurt during playtime. Second, her mom (my aunt) is also a nurse, so Mei Ling grew up hearing stories about hospital life and how rewarding it can be to help people get better. Lastly, she knew that nursing is a stable job with good career prospects, which was important to her.
I feel really proud of Mei Ling. Being a nurse isn't easy – she often works long hours and has to deal with tough situations. But whenever I talk to her, I can tell she really loves her job. She always has interesting stories to share about the people she's helped.
I also admire her dedication and bravery, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. She worked extra shifts and put herself at risk to help others. It makes me see her as a kind of everyday hero.

Nurses often spend more time with patients, giving emotional support too. Without nurses, doctors couldn't do their job properly, and without doctors, nurses wouldn't know how to treat patients. They're both crucial parts of the healthcare system. It's their teamwork that makes healthcare work.

That's a tricky question. In many places, I think they could be paid more, considering the vital work they do. They have to study for years and often work long, stressful hours. Nurses, especially, are often underpaid for the amount of care they provide. But it's not just about money – they need better working conditions too. Some countries pay their medical staff well, while others struggle to. It also depends on the specific job and location. Overall, given the importance of their work and the pressure they're under, I feel many doctors and nurses deserve higher pay. It's about valuing the people who keep us healthy.

Absolutely! I think everyone should learn basic first aid. You never know when you might need it – accidents can happen anywhere, anytime. Knowing first aid could mean the difference between life and death in an emergency. It's not just for big emergencies either; even small injuries can be handled better with first aid knowledge. Plus, it gives you confidence to help others. Imagine if someone collapses and you're the only one around – wouldn't you want to know what to do? Schools should teach it, I reckon. It's a life skill, like swimming or cooking. You might not use it often, but when you need it, you'll be glad you learned it.
