I'd like to talk about my university roommate, Xiao Wei, who's definitely one of the most opinionated people I know. We met three years ago when we were assigned to share a dorm room in our first year at university.
From day one, it was clear that Xiao Wei had strong views on just about everything. Whether it was politics, music, or even the best way to organize our tiny dorm room, he always had a firm stance. I remember our first conversation about climate change - what I thought would be a casual chat turned into a passionate hour-long debate!
I think Xiao Wei is such an opinionated person for a few reasons. Firstly, he's incredibly well-read and always stays up-to-date with current affairs. He devours news articles and books on various topics, which fuels his confidence in discussions. Secondly, he comes from a family of lawyers, so I suspect that debating and arguing points is somewhat in his blood. Lastly, I believe he genuinely cares about making the world better, which drives him to form and express strong opinions on important issues.
As for how I feel about Xiao Wei, it's a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, I admire his passion and how well-informed he is. Our conversations are never boring, and he's challenged me to think more critically about my own views. On the other hand, his strong opinions can sometimes be overwhelming, especially when you just want to have a relaxed chat. There have been times when I've felt a bit exhausted trying to keep up with his intensity.
Despite the occasional frustration, I generally enjoy Xiao Wei's company. He's taught me the value of standing up for what you believe in and the importance of being well-informed. While I may not always agree with him, I respect his dedication to his beliefs and his ability to articulate them so passionately.

Young people often have strong opinions about three main areas. Firstly, environmental issues, particularly climate change, where they advocate for more sustainable practices and for each individual to make more of a contribution to recycling and conservation efforts. Secondly, they are concerned about education and career and planning for a future family – these are important issues for all young people, globally. Thirdly, I'd say that young people today, especially more affluent young people, are interested in exploring new hobbies, interests, sports and perhaps travel ambitions. These are top of the agenda for many upwardly mobile young people in cities in my country today. 

Older people often have strong opinions about three main areas, too. First, they care a lot about traditional values and social norms. Many want to keep cultural traditions and family values alive. Second, they have strong views on healthcare and social welfare. These systems are important for their well-being and money concerns as they get older. Third, they often feel strongly about political matters. They tend to worry about things like national safety, a stable economy, and careful spending. These opinions often come from their own life experiences and the changes they've seen over the years.

Yes, there are many people with strong opinions in our lives today. This is especially true in urban areas and on social media platforms. 
Young people are often passionate about social issues like climate change, career development, and education. They're not afraid to speak up about these topics, both online and in person. Many are active in student groups, or online blogs. However, it's worth noting that not all young people are outspoken. Some prefer to keep their opinions private and are still forming their views on complex issues. And actually, spend a lot of their time thinking about rest, entertainment, having fun, eating out, finding a future husband or wife, and things like this. Not everyone has strong opinions about everything beyond their own individual lives, families, personal pursuits and ambitions. 

Both listening and persuading are important skills, but I believe listening is generally more crucial. Listening helps us understand different perspectives and gather information, which is essential for making informed decisions. It also builds trust and strengthens relationships. Good listening skills can actually make persuasion more effective when it's necessary. That said, persuasion is important in certain situations, like leadership roles or when advocating for change. The ideal approach is to balance both: listen first to understand, then persuade if needed, based on that understanding.


In general, thinking before speaking is a good practice, but it depends on the situation. In important or formal settings, it's crucial to think things through before speaking. This helps avoid misunderstandings and prevents us from saying something we might regret later. However, in casual, everyday conversations, speaking more spontaneously is often fine. Being too cautious in these situations might make conversations feel unnatural and hinder social interactions. The key is to judge the context and adjust our approach accordingly.

Yes, I think having strong opinions is generally good. Firstly, strong opinions often come from deep thinking and passion about important issues. This shows that a person cares about the world around them and has put effort into understanding complex topics. Secondly, strong opinions can motivate people to take action and work towards positive change in society. When people feel strongly about something, they're more likely to get involved and make a difference, whether it's through volunteering, activism, or simply speaking up about issues that matter.
