There is a distinct generational divide in usage habits. Generally, young people, often referred to as digital natives, use smartphones as an extension of their identity. They utilize them for everything: social media validation, gaming, and streaming content. It's about multimedia consumption and constant connectivity. In contrast, older generations tend to view phones more as utilitarian tools. While many are becoming tech-savvy, their usage primarily revolves around communication—calls, messaging apps like WeChat—and perhaps reading the news. For them, the phone serves a practical purpose rather than being a source of instant gratification or entertainment.

It's definitely a double-edged sword. On the positive side, smartphones bridge the physical gap. We can maintain relationships across continents through video calls and instant messaging, which keeps the bond alive despite long distances.
However, the downside is the phenomenon known as 'phubbing'—snubbing someone in favor of your phone. It can make face-to-face interactions feel superficial. When friends are physically together but mentally scrolling through feeds, it dilutes the quality of the conversation and can actually lead to a sense of isolation, ironically.

I wouldn't say it's a waste of time, but it can be counterproductive if taken to extremes. On one hand, capturing photos allows us to archive memories and document our lives, acting as a digital diary that we can look back on with nostalgia. This has sentimental value. On the other hand, if one is obsessively documenting every single meal or sunset, they risk missing the moment itself. Instead of experiencing the event with their own eyes, they are viewing it through a screen. So, it depends on whether the phone is used to capture the moment or interrupt it.

Absolutely, especially when public safety and privacy are at stake. The most obvious necessity is regarding distracted driving. Strict legislation is required to prevent accidents caused by texting behind the wheel. Furthermore, with the advancement of high-quality cameras, there should be regulations protecting individuals from being recorded without consent in private spaces. While we shouldn't infringe on personal freedom, the law must draw a line where one person's phone usage begins to endanger or harass others.
