In history lessons we mainly studied the history of China’s ancient civilisations, the inventions and the art, culture and notable periods in modern Chinese history. 

To be perfectly honest I found it extremely boring. The way the lessons were taught was tedious - we had to learn lots of dates and facts, commit them to memory, then pass exams at the end of the semesters. 

I watch history documentaries fairly often, especially when I’m staying at my cousins house. There are some quite good ones on TV these days - much more interesting than school lessons, and more vividly presented. 

I’m especially interested in the Tang dynasty. I’m drawn to periods when art and culture were flourishing and open-minded - when people enjoyed indulging in all sorts of creative pursuits.
