The line graph describes the changes of the average attendance at top-level football competitions in three European nations during the period from 1980 to 2004.

According to the line graph, the average number of people attending top-level football matches in Italy was the highest in 1980, with a slight increase from 35 thousand to 37 thousand over the first six-year period. Thereafter, the following years witnessed a dramatic dip, with merely 25 thousand people present at the competitions in 2004, by which time Italy had been placed last, in terms of the average attendance at top-level football matches, among three nations.

By contrast, as can be seen from the line graph, although the data for England experienced a decreasing trend between 1980 and 1986, at 26 thousand in contrast to 22 thousand, there was a significant growth of as much as 12 thousand in the average number of English who attended top football competitions for the next eighteen years, overtaking that of Italians and occupying the first position in 2004. It is worth noting that the figure for Germans showed a similar trend, with the number dropping by 6 thousand in the first period and then gradually climbing by 14 thousand in the next three periods.

Overall, during the mentioned period, fewer Italians attended top-level football matches while more English and Germans were willing to be present.
