Test 1-Section 1 | SECTION 1 |
[02:33.68 | OFFICER: Good morning. |
[02:34.81 | What can I do for you? |
[02:36.18 | LOUISE: I want to report a theft. |
[02:38.11 | I had some things stolen out of my bag yesterday. |
[02:41.47 | OFFICER: I'm sorry to hear that. |
[02:43.58 | Right, so I'll need to take a few details. |
[02:47.23 | Can I start with your name? |
[02:48.61 | LOUISE: Louise Taylor. |
[02:50.19 | OFFICER: OK, thank you. |
[02:52.00 | And are you resident in the UK? |
[02:53.88 | LOUISE: No, I'm actually Canadian, though my mother was British. |
[02:57.96 | OFFICER: And your date of birth? |
[03:00.28 | LOUISE: December 14th, 1977. |
[03:03.34 | OFFICER: So you're just visiting this country? |
[03:05.89 | LOUISE: That's right. |
[03:07.03 | I come over most summers on business. |
[03:09.04 | I'm an interior designer and I come over to buy old furniture, antiques you know. |
[03:15.56 | There are some really lovely things around here, but you need to get out to the small towns. |
[03:21.05 | I've had a really good trip this year, until this happened. |
[03:24.62 | OFFICER: OK. |
[03:25.82 | So you've been here quite a while? |
[03:27.74 | LOUISE: Yes, I’m here for two months. |
[03:30.49 | I go back next week. |
[03:32.40 | OFFICER: So may I ask where you're staying now? |
[03:35.04 | LOUISE: Well at present I've got a place at Park Apartments, that's on King Street. |
[03:41.11 | I was staying at the Riverside Apartments on the same street, but the apartment there was only available for six weeks so I had to find another one. |
[03:50.59 | OFFICER: OK. |
[03:51.72 | And the apartment number? |
[03:53.16 | LOUISE: 15. |
[03:54.22 | OFFICER: Right. |
[04:47.38 | OFFICER: Now, I need to take some details of the theft. |
[04:51.19 | So you said you had some things stolen out of your bag? |
[04:55.03 | LOUISE: That's right. |
[04:56.22 | OFFICER: And were you actually carrying the bag when the theft took place? |
[05:00.46 | LOUISE: Yes. |
[05:01.49 | I really can't understand it. |
[05:03.70 | I had my backpack on. |
[05:05.85 | And I went into a supermarket to buy a few things and when I opened it up my wallet wasn't there. |
[05:13.04 | OFFICER: And what did your wallet have in it? |
[05:15.73 | LOUISE: Well, fortunately I don't keep my credit cards in that wallet - I keep them with my passport in an inside compartment in my backpack. |
[05:25.02 | But there was quite a bit of cash there ... about £250 sterling, I should think. |
[05:32.48 | I withdrew £300 from my account yesterday, but I did a bit of shopping, so I must have already spent about £50 of that. |
[05:42.37 | OFFICER: OK. |
[05:43.52 | LOUISE: At first I thought, oh I must have left the wallet back in the apartment, but then I realised my phone had gone as well. |
[05:51.90 | It was only a week old, and that's when I realised I'd been robbed. |
[05:57.27 | Anyway at least they didn't take the keys to my rental car. |
[06:00.83 | OFFICER: Yes. |
[06:01.98 | So you say the theft occurred yesterday? |
[06:05.06 | LOUISE: Yes. |
[06:06.12 | OFFICER: So that was September the tenth. |
[06:08.94 | And do you have any idea at all of where or when the things might possibly have been stolen? |
[06:16.38 | LOUISE: Well at first I couldn't believe it because the bag had been on my back ever since I left the apartment after lunch. |
[06:24.15 | It's just a small backpack, but I generally use it when I'm travelling because it seems safer than a handbag. |
[06:31.88 | Anyway, I met up with a friend, and we spent a couple of hours in the museum. |
[06:38.44 | But I do remember that as we were leaving there, at about 4 o'clock, a group of young boys ran up to us, and they were really crowding round us, and they were asking us what time it was, then all of a sudden they ran off. |
[06:55.40 | OFFICER: Can you remember anything about them? |
[06:58.30 | LOUISE: The one who did most of the talking was wearing a T-shirt with a picture of something ... let's see ... a tiger. |
[07:08.79 | OFFICER: Right. |
[07:09.78 | Any idea of how old he might have been? |
[07:12.53 | LOUISE: Around twelve years old? |
[07:15.40 | OFFICER: And can you remember anything else about his appearance? |
[07:19.48 | LOUISE: Not much, he was quite thin ... |
[07:22.96 | OFFICER: Colour of hair? |
[07:24.28 | LOUISE: I do remember that - he was blond. |
[07:27.45 | All the others were dark-haired. |
[07:30.04 | OFFICER: And any details of the others? |
[07:32.78 | LOUISE: Not really. |
[07:34.38 | They came and went so quickly. |
[07:36.80 | OFFICER: Right. |
[07:38.07 | So what I'm going to do now is give you a crime reference number so you can contact your insurance company. |
[07:45.76 | So this is ten digits: 87954 82361. |
[07:54.68 | LOUISE: Thank you. |
[07:56.04 | So should I ... |
