数据(data)、趋势(trend)、比较(comparison & contrast)、结构(structure)是一篇好的雅思小作文必备的4大核心要素。其中，趋势(trend)是指数据随着时间的变化而变化，主要表现为上升、下降、不变或波动等。

　　在对图表中的数据进行趋势描述时，必须掌握如下2个关键的核心句型：

　　sth increased sharpy. 剧烈上升

　　There was a sharp increase in sth. 剧烈上升上述2个句型可以相互转换。第1句使用“动词搭配副词”;第2句话使用“形容词搭配名词”。句中的increase可以换成任何表示趋势的词汇，例如rise, decrease, fall;sharply可以换成 slightly 或dramatically等。

　　描述趋势的动词和副词，基本上都有对应的名词和形容词，例如：

　　increase(动词)- increased(过去式) - increased(过去分词)
