Despite being once labelled as "climate-wreckers" – Sports Utility Vehicles, or SUVs, now rule the road.

Figures show more than half of new cars sold globally are SUVs. In 2014, it was only one in five.

The vast majority of them run on dirty fuels. They also require more resources for manufacturing, since they are usually heavier and bigger.
