　　1. 'While they examined me, Cathy came round; she heard the last speech, and laughed. Edgar Linton, after an inquisitive stare, collected sufficient wit to recognise her. They see us at church, you know, though we seldom meet them elsewhere. "That's Miss Earnshaw?" he whispered to his mother, "and look how Skulker has bitten her - how her foot bleeds!"

I declare he is that strange acquisition my late neighbour made, in his journey to Liverpool - a little Lascar, or an American or Spanish castaway."

　　sufficient：足够的;充分的 adj.

　　【对比】sufficient&enough

　　sufficient与enough的比较：两者都表示“足够的”，但又不同。在当名词使用时，更偏用enough，因为enough本身有名词用法，而用sufficient则会给人附庸风雅的感觉。作为形容词时，sufficient在语法上更合适，但日常生活中衡量“量的多少”时，常用enough。强调“质”的时候，会用sufficient，例：sufficient investigation(充分的调查)

　　我怀疑他们是否真有足够的人力。

　　【例】We must work hard, but equally we must get sufficient rest.

　　pathetically lacking in force or effectiveness; disabled in the feet or legs;

　　castaway 被抛弃的;遭难的 adj.也可以做名词，坐船遇难者;被抛弃的人。
