而部分倒装就是将谓语的一部分提到主语之前，比如助动词或者情态动词。如果句中的谓语没有助动词或者情态动词，则需要添加助动词do，does，或者did，并将其置于主语之前。即：助动词/情态动词+主语+动词。比较常见的情况有以下几种：
1. 当no，not，never，seldom，little，hardly，at no time，in no way，by no means，not until等含有否定意义的词或者短语谓语句首时，需要采取部分倒装的形式。例句如下：Not only was there the tragic incident involving the murder of athletes, but the Games were also ruined by lesser incidents caused principally by minor national contests.
2. 当“only+状语”位于句首时，主句需要出现部分倒装，而这种简单的句式结构也是大家在作文中可以利用的句型。考研阅读中例句如下：Only gradually was the by-product of the institution noted, and only more gradually still was this effect considered as a directive factor in the conduct of the institution.
3. As引导的让步状语从句中，从句出现部分倒装的情况：As much as some scientists may complain about the awards, two things seem clear.
