Parkingbnb will allow alltypes of parking-space owners to list their properties and will make parkingsuggestions based on users’ preferences, including location, price, distance,traffic, fuel consumption, landscape and other parameters.
As anyone who knows HongKong will attest, finding a parking space in the city can not only be stressfuland time-consuming, but also rather expensive. Yet relief could be on the waydue to a Hong Kong start-up that’s set to launch an innovative new system basedon the sharing-economy model adopted by the likes of Airbnb and Uber.The company, UrbanChain Group Limited, hopes to ease the search for aparking spot and enable space owners to rent them out when not in use.
A Perfect Fit
Parkingbnb is a sharing-economyinitiative – among several other projects the company is working on – that ithopes will be a perfect fit as the smart-city concept is embraced across the GreaterBay Area (GBA), according to UrbanChain's Founder and ChiefExecutive Officer Vitaly Pentegov.
The GBA initiativeaims to closely link nine major provincial cities in Guangdong province withthe Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions to create an economiczone that will form a key component in the next phase of China's economicdevelopment. The area covered by the initiative has a GDP of US$1.6 trillion.
Why Hong Kong?
Pentegov, a Russiannational with several years’ experience in IT and international banking, sayshe chose Hong Kong – and its hinterland in Shenzhen and Guangdong province – tolaunch Parkingbnb for a number of key reasons.
“Hong Kong and Shenzhenoffer an existing innovation and technology ecosystem, which is relatively easyto tap into thanks to the commitment of government to provide the support andbacking that a start-up needs without necessarily having equity,” saidPentegov.
“The city – and byextension the GBA – also offers a massive potential market, and ofcourse we cannot forget the special role Hong Kong plays with regard to itscompetitive tax regime, longstanding international connections and valuableexperience in the area of contract law.”
