　　adverb

　　1. used in negative sentences and questions to talk about sth that has not happened but that you expect to happen

　　(用于否定句和疑问句,谈论尚未发生但可能发生的事)

　　(BrE) I haven't received a letter from him yet.

　　我还没有收到他的信呢。

　　(NAmE) I didn't receive a letter from him yet.

　　我没有收到过他的信。

　　'Are you ready?' 'No, not yet.'

　　"你准备好了吗?" "还没有。"

　　We have yet to decide what action to take (= We have not decided what action to take).

　　我们尚未决定采取何种行动。

　　2. (used in negative sentences 用于否定句) now; as soon as this

　　现在;即刻;马上:

　　Don't go yet.

　　先别走。

　　We don't need to start yet.

　　我们不必马上出发。

　　3. from now until the period of time mentioned has passed

　　从现在起直至某一时间;还:

　　He'll be busy for ages yet.

　　他还要忙很长一段时间。

　　They won't arrive for at least two hours yet.

　　他们至少要过两个小时才能到。

　　4. could, might, may, etc. do sth ~ used to say that sth could, might, etc. happen in the future, even though it seems unlikely

　　(表示将来可能发生,尽管现在似乎没有可能)早晚,总有一天:

　　We may win yet.

　　我们迟早会赢的。

　　(formal) She could yet surprise us all.

　　总有一天,她会让我们都大吃一惊。

　　5. the best, longest, etc. sth ~ (done) the best, longest, etc. thing of its kind made, produced, written, etc. until now / then

　　迄今为止,到当时为止(最好或最长等的):

　　the most comprehensive study yet of his music

　　迄今为止对他的音乐最为全面的研究

　　It was the highest building yet constructed.

　　这是到当时为止所建的最高的建筑物。

　　6. ~ another / more ~ again used to emphasize an increase in number or amount or the number of times sth happens

　　(强调次数或数量的增加):

　　snow, snow and yet more snow

　　下雪,下雪,还要下雪

　　yet another diet book

　　又是一本关于节食的书

　　Prices were cut yet again (= once more, after many other times).

　　物价再一次降低。

　　7. ~ worse, more importantly, etc. used to emphasize an increase in the degree of sth (= how bad, important, etc. it is)

　　SYN even , still :

　　a recent and yet more improbable theory

　　一个新近提出的但更加不切实际的理论
